The New Informix

New IBM Informix editions are now available to help deploy highly scalable, extremely reliable, and embeddable solutions at lower cost for any sized business solutions. The new Informix editions are designed to help you maximize your investment and minimize your costs while benefitting from enterprise class functionality. Informix is ideal for small to medium size businesses, providing fewer administrative hassles and greater reliability. Informix's rich set of high-availability and scalability features enable larger enterprise customers to scale their operations across the globe to help maximize return on their IT infrastructure investment. The new Editions and license metrics are available for IDS 11.50.xC7 and above.

Community Editions – Free of Charge

As an option IBM 12-month Elite level Selected Support for the new no-charge editions is available for an additional charge. Elite Support entitles you to receive technical support, software upgrades, and updates. For more information about the Elite Support package see this IBM page.

Along with the Community Editions IBM introduced a new license definition called an "Install”. IBM defines an Install as an installed copy of the product on a physical or virtual server. Each server requires a separate Install. This new license method removes the need to count users, connections, or the type of core being used.

The Informix Developer Edition is also available for system development and test only. It has limited functionality and cannot be used in a production environment. There is no optional support package.

For-Purchase editions

The new Ultimate and Growth Editions replace the Enterprise and Workgroup Editions respectively. They offer updated license metrics to fit any deployment requirement. Purchased editions of Informix can be licensed through one of several pricing metrics depending on your needs.
